DaBears 7 game winning streak came to end at 6:30 thanks to good strong defense by FRBC Blue and crappy pitching by Jimmy and Danny. This was actually a close game after 3 innings, but DaBears stopped hitting for good after Wallis walked to load the bases and Dennis made a diving stop and started the 6-4-3 double play on the next pitch to totally derail DaBears comeback.
The team did rebound in game 2 as DaBears beat the Oil Can Boyd-led Regal Eagles 15-12.
Highlights on the night included:
- Alan went 4 for 4 with a walk
- Scott and Wallis played good strong defense out in left and left center
- Neven made his first dive attempt of the Bush administration
- Peters saved his first hit of the summer for a big time – in extra innings to help DaBears score 4 and take the lead for good
- Sanders and Cubbie each had clutch hits to send the game to extra innings
- Jeffrey went 3 for 4 with 4 RBI in the first game
- Jake also went 3 for 3 and had a fart and fall on a high fly ball out to right field
- Big Matt stole a base and loves Nick

For the second week in a row, a few members of DaBears are taking a field trip to New York City… this time to see the greatness of Billy Joel at Shea Stadium tonight followed by a trip to see the new Batman Movie. All Bears members will be back in time for the 6:30 COMP game followed by the first encounter with the hated Regal Eagles since the mighty Hurricane Ditka kicked the ever loving crap out of them back in June.
Please use the comment section to discuss how much the Ditka-Bears beat the crap out of the Regal Eagles, or about the new Batman movie…

Future Bear Logan Smith is already preparing to be called up to take his father, or grandfather’s place…
The story of the night is so great that it actually overshadows Nick’s 4th strikeout of the year, and 2nd in the Bears-Cubs series. The big story of the night was the return of the Greatest Bear Ever – Charlie “Papa Bear” Reilly, who came out of retirement again after more than a 5 year lay off. Papa Bear has had a busy couple of weeks – he retired from American Airlines after 44 years of dedicated service, and has traveled to St. Louis and New York in addition to hitting the cages in preparation for last night.
Not only did Papa Bear play last night for the first time since the Spring of 2003 – he led off… for both teams and we’re pretty sure this is a record. He went 3 for 6 on the night and his 3 outs have caused us to cut Big Josh and Jeffe from the team….
Along with Papa Bear returning to action – we also had Dave and Jeffe back with the team. Jeffe went 2 for 3 on the night, played a good 3rd base, gave us a High-Pitch-Jeffe yelp, and came in to record the save. The big Dave story line is that after 18 years and 50-plus seasons of playing together, Neven actually had more hits than Dave in a game (1 hit to none) and the payoff was the Jackass DVD being smashed on the Dave-head in the parking lot after the game.
The stars of the game were:
- Papa Bear – 3 for 6 with 1 run
- Danny – 2 for 2 with 2 runs and 3 stolen bases
- Clint - 3 for 3 with 2 doubles and 3 runs scored
- Jimmy – 3 for 4 with 2 doubles, and 3 runs
- James – 3 for 3 with 3 runs scored – luckily this overshadows getting burned by Howie and dropping a bare-handed attempt to catch a pop fly
- Jake – 2 for 2 with 1 run scored
- Bo – 1 for 2… with 1 freakin arm!!! He had a cast of his left hand and could only hold the bat with 1 hand!!! He had as many hits as Nick, Neven and Teddy with 1 less at bat and one dang hand!
Please leave us your thoughts in the comment section… and go ahead and bitch about why you would have won the game if…

Attention Bears and Cubs: we are going to have a plethora of player-men on Monday night, so please be aware of the fact that we’ll have subs.
If we each have the same amount of guys – we might go ahead and bat extra guys in each lineup…
With the MLB All Star Game coming up next week and with baseball at the mythical halfway point, it is fitting that DaBears play DaCubs at our halfway point of the year. While our 10th game in the modern day Bears-Cubs series is basically our all star game, we should take some time to celebrate the middle of our season and this storied rivalry.
First, let us look at DaBears All Stars as voted on by DaBears media and fans:
- P – Danny Bullard – good solid pitching and on his way to becoming a real bear
- C – Big Matt Honza – not only great internetsing… good stats to go along with good comedy
- 1B – Jason Wagnon – 53 RBI, 653 average, 20 extra base hits… good strong
- 2B – Scott Austin – 49 RBI, 655 average, and a 681 OBP make him quite strong too
- SS – Jimmy Reilly – 753 average, 769 OBP, and 60 runs
- 3B – Clint Lee – 682 average and continues to have the best start ever for a Bear
- LF – Tim Wallis – 722 average, 39 RBI and hands down out best player
- LC – Jeffrey Reilly – rebounded from a horrible start and is now batting 662 with 34 RBI and the biggest hit of the year against Regal Eagles
- RC – Bo Rankin - #’s are down a little offensively, but Bo is so much better than anyone else defensively – he still makes the All Star Team
- RF – Chris Coffee – 639 average, and has more triples and homers than he has doubles… he’s fast
- DH – Eli Jordan – he may be an angry vulgar gambler, but he can sure hit also – 641 average with 18 RBI is a good good
Now we need to focus our attention to the only game of the week – DaBears vs. DaCubs. DaBears currently lead this series 6 games to 3. Tim Wallis actually has the best winning percentage of all guys that have played in this game with a 5-1 personal record (he skipped out on the Labor Day World Series last year). The 2 highest averages in the series below to Jeffrey (720) and Jimmy (704) and the lowest averages in the series belong to Jeffe (300) and Colby (400) although Colby is still probably the poster-boy of this entire series as he set the tone with 7 put outs in right center on the “Night of the Rattler” in game one of this match-up. Other interesting note from this series include Worm’s breakaway pants, Worm’s painted on uniform, Worm tagging out Bo at home plate wearing full catchers gear, Scott Austin scoring from first while eating a hot dog and drinking a coke, and Scott also played on both teams in one game.

Tate Springs II’s plan against DaBears was simple: load up with as many free agents as possible to try to tackle the mighty giants. Clayton was summoned over from the co-ed field to pitch and the great fake Hank Blalock came in to bat clean up and was not happy about getting walked. The biggest cheater on the roster was the mighty Mark Simmons who was unable to use his knowledge to destroy his former team while wearing a Bears jersey. DaBears dominated this game from the beginning and the only real highlights were Jeffrey yelling at Kabakoff for daydreaming about his long-lost lover, Paul instead of coaching 3rd base and Jimmy yelling at Nick after Nick tried blame his crappy throw from catcher out to left field on Alan or Jimmy not getting to second base quick enough for his rag-arm. Highlights included:
- Wagnon, Jeffrey, Scott and Jimmy went a combined 12 for 12 with a walk, 8 runs scored and 8 RBI
- Alan turned 2 double plays – 1 at third and 1 at second… he good.
- Danny struck out 2 on the night (actually it was the same guy twice)
- Simmons had another HR against us
- Bryan Brown went 2 for 2 with a walk and a Bears-2 RBI double back to the pitcher… Bears scoring is the best.
- DaBears Rec team had a bye, and I’m not sure how Ditka did so please give me an update Ditka player men…

DaBears have reached the halfway point of the year, so like SI and ESPN DaBears.com must now take this time to assess how the year has gone so far and hand out mid-season grades. In the Spring – all Bears teams went a combined 11-15 and so far this summer we are a combined 8-3 to bring our overall record for the year to a mediocre 19-18. DaBears and Cubs have split the series so far this year and there have been 3 games that rank among the best of all time for DaBears:
- Ditka’s come from behind and stick it in the rear of the Regal Eagles a few weeks back to win 22-20
- DaBears REC team coming back from 11 down thanks to 12 straight hits to defeat the Renegades 27-25 back in week 1 of the Spring Season
- And one of DaBears most gratifying and all around solid team efforts ever came in the final game of the Spring season as DaBears Comp team came back from way down to beat the dirty King of Kings 20-19.
We have also seen some of the worst team performances in the history of DaBears:
- The worst performance of all time was turned in by Ditka back in April as they lost 19-0! They did muster 2 singles in the game, but this was the worst game ever witnessed by most Bears fans… since the co-ed no-hitter of 1990.
- Other bad games included DaBears Red getting killed by Decra 10-27, and losing to Simmons and Carlisle 2 times this year in the bottom of the last inning both times!
Here are some of the individual performances that are noteworthy so far:
- Danny and James have been solid pitcher men for DaBears all year long. Other guys who have stepped in and not totally sucked have been Ernie, Jeffe, Jimmy, Wagnon (warm ups only) and Jake
- Howie shattered the record previously set by Jeffrey, Bo, and Teddy by being the drunkest Bear ever to take the field last week
- Jake broke a Bear record for anyone other than a first baseman by recording 11 put outs in one game at second base
- Jimmy had a 16 at bat in a row hit streak in the beginning of the year in route to his Spring MVB award and is batting 745 for the year
- Wallis is the only other Bear with an average over 700 for the year at 722
- Wagnon leads the team in RBI for the year with 49 with Scott trailing by 2. Scott led the team in the Spring with 33
- Other good strongs include Clint batting 682 with 23 RBI, Danny batting 638 with 35 RBI, and Jeffrey batting 627 with 31 RBI
- Teddy has started out the year batting a solid 6 for 20
- Other not-stongs include Kabby batting 449, Neven batting 400, Perez who hit 318 in the Spring and Checkeye who has started his Bear career batting 323 with a strikeout in 31 abs
- DaBears have 12 strikeouts so far including Colby’s 2 in a row to start out the year and Nick’s 2 in a row late in the Spring to give him 3 for the year
- Internets MVBs are Cubbie, Rollins, Johnny, Cody and Chad with honorable mention going to Big Matt, Scooter, Dave, Big Josh and Wagnon
Give us your thoughts in the comment section below…

I don’t want to interrupt this interesting discussion, but check out these great Drake base-running moments brought to you by the greatness of Dave and youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RL42iXCOR4o - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RL42iXCOR4o -
Let’s go straight to the recaps and highlights:
- DaBears COMP team defeats Pleasant Ridge Church of Christ Red 7-5. This game was pretty pathetic. DaBears fielded one of the worst teams of the year and barely held off the feeble opponent in a game that went the entire 7 innings. DaBears hit so poorly that our 2 Hall of Famers watching us in the stands almost came out of retirement to pinch hit in their flip flops. As ugly as the game was – we’ll take any victory when you consider that our outfield contained non of our best players as Wagnon was hurt and relegated to infield duty, Bo was watching the game with a broken thumb, Wallis was working and Jeffrey was in Denver. The outfield was actually anchored by Jimmy in left center for the first time in this millennium and there were no errors in the entire game!
- Jake had 11 put outs at second base… this has to be a record but now I have to go back and check old boxscores to verify that Matt or Dave didn’t do this ever at first base. It’s most certainly a Bears record at any position other than first base though.
- Scooter made his “Bears” debut and went 1 for 3
- Scott went 3 for 4 and drove in 3 runs
- 6-11 in the lineup combined to hit 389 yet DaBears still won the game
- Hurricane Ditka beats Opponents 13-11. As hard as it is for DaBears COMP team to win without Jeffrey and Bo – it is harder for Ditka! Their 2 best players were out of the lineup yet they were able to hold off a late rally by the Opponents. Didn’t really pay close attention to this game so I’m going to need some help with more detailed highlights in the comment section.
- Howie dove so hard that he F’ed up his face
- Coffee went 3 for 3 with 3 runs scored
- Nick made an embarrassing error right in from of his wife and all his friends in LC
- Slim Paul went 0 for 3 bringing his lifetime average to 323
- Big Eli went 0 for 2 with a SAC
- Danny went 3 for 3 and drove in 2
- DaBears REC beats Thunderducks 17-16. This was one of the more exciting games of the season as DaBears coughed up an 8 run lead in the bottom of the 6th inning and allowed the Thunderducks to send it to extra innings. In the top of the 7th, DaBears could only muster 1 run as Scott drove in Worm but that would be enough DaBears played solid enough on defense to win. Here are some highlights:
- James Drake played a good strong LF much to the surprise of Wagnon who was shocked to see him out there… When Wagnon realized that James had strolled out there – the first thing that came out of his mouth was “What the F are you doing here?”.
- Ernie Price made his first appearance with DaBears in about 6 or 7 years and picked up the win
- Alan, Scott and Jimmy all reached base 4 times
- Scott drove in another 4 runs to make 7 for the night
One other note… thanks to a late push helped along by our new friends Rollins and Johnny – DaBears went over 5000 hits for the month of June, breaking the record set back in May. Thanks for wasting your time on a D League softball teams web site that you don’t even play on… Losers!
Stats will be updated later today or tomorrow.

I have been reluctant to start a new story these past couple of days because there has been so much greatness from Cubbie, Scooter, Rollins, Big Matt, Nick, Neven, and others but I would like to start a new thread because it takes too long to get to the bottom of the 127 comments. Let’s just put the greatness of last week into perspective real quick:
- Last Tuesday this web page received the most hits ever with 370-something.
- On Wednesday, we got over 300 hits for the second day in a row… and that has never happened.
- Thursday, we broke the record that was established on Tuesday at around noon and proceeded to shatter it by the end of the day with 628 for the day.
- The official stance of dabears web staff is that we invite any idiot from any other team (along with idiots from our team) to join any discussion at any time.
- Quick Year to Date stat update: Wagnon leads in RBI with 45 for the year, Jimmy leads in Runs Scored with 51, Jimmy leads in average at 759, Alan leads in walks with 9, Danny leads in steals with 7, Wagnon leads in Put Outs with 49, Jimmy leads in Assists with 35, Nick still leads in strikeouts with 3, and the lowest average so far is Teddy at 250.
- Schedule Update – DaBears COMP team plays at 6:30, Ditka plays at 8:30 and DaBears Rec plays at 9:30… unfortunately the Regal Eagles have a bye week to dwell on the worst loss of their lives.
- Jeffrey and Wallis are out for all Bears games due to work and vacation.
- Scooter will be making his Bears COMP team debut by filling in at DH for our missing stars.
Now please feel free to comment on any topic you choose…
